August, 2017
It’s Been a Busy Month!
Between the struggle at B&H, OSHA trainings, and being nominated for an EMMY, leadership development at LWC never stops. Here are some of our favorite snapshots from this month:

B&H Workers Protest Bill de Blasio
B&H workers and supporters held a powerful demonstration outside Gracie Mansion on August 8, 2017. The action took place during an event hosted by Mayor Bill de Blasio to celebrate Dominican heritage. The B&H workers, a majority Latino, saw the event as the perfect opportunity to draw attention to de Blasio’s inaction to protect immigrant lives in New York City. Instead of celebrating, they publicly protested the mayor’s complicity with B&H’s drive to destroy the workers’ jobs and union rights. Laundry Workers Center is proud to stand by the B&H workers as they lead the fight to save their jobs. Want to read more about the action? Check out this coverage from The Indypendent and Hyperallergic .

Community Training for Occupational Health & Safety
Laundry Workers Center conducted OSHA trainings to 40 community members in general construction at St. Peter’s Church/Iglesia Sion. Aug 18 & 19th, 2017.

The Hand That Feeds is Nominated!
The Hand That Feeds, the documentary featuring the struggle of the Hot & Crusty workers, is nominated for a 2017 Emmy! Hot & Crusty was one of Laundry Workers Center’s first campaigns; we are so proud of all the workers and supporters who fought in the campaign, and everyone who worked to make the film! We are rooting for you!

Help Our Members Continue To Fight– Donate Today to LWC
Laundry Workers Center’s political philosophy is rooted in organizing workers and building their leadership skills and political power through a variety of worker-lead tools and tactics,  including taking direct action at the workplace, serving as their own voice to media outlets, speaking out as member of this community, and acting as their own advocates at the negotiation table.
