A Big Victory for Texas Families!

On Wednesday evening, Judge Garcia issued his ruling, and stopped SB 4 from going into effect today. This injunction blocks the law’s major provisions. The ruling came just days before the law was scheduled to go into effect.

“Today, Texas families won the first of many battles against Gov. Abbott and his racist agenda,” said Jose P. Garza, Executive Director of the Workers Defense Project. “Texas families are fighting for the Texas that we can be. We will continue to fight back in court, in the streets, and in our communities.”

Over the past nine months, and especially during our Summer of Resistance, Texas immigrant families, our members and allies, and many of you—our friends and champions—fought back. We’ve seen a movement of immigrant workers and Texas families grow all across the state, from El Cenizo to Dallas to San Antonio. With Wednesday night’s victory, our movement will only grow.

Thank you for fighting with us. Thank you for your support of our members and Texas families. Thank you for your support of the Summer of Resistance and our movement. We couldn’t have done it without you.  Although this will not be last we hear of this racist law, for now we say thank you, and we celebrate.
