The headline says it all, “Lawmakers Got Gifts To End Indiana’s Solar Law.”

Many of us spent all winter and spring fighting this very bad law, Senate Bill 309.

2,000 H-IPL supporters signed a petition against it and hundreds turned out to protest and testify against SB 309.

Can you join us for an emergency phone call tomorrow night, Thursday, November 9th, 2018, with our friends at the Sierra Club Beyond Coal campaign at 8:00 PM EST/7:00 EST. Email me by replying to this email or at mikeoles@hoosieripl.org or call/text me at 317-281-0568 to let me know you can join in.

We will be discussing the article(s) and what we can do to fight back and build the movement to repeal SB 309 and move Indiana towards 100% clean energy, made right at home,

It’s no surprise that monopoly utility companies in Indiana like Duke, Vectren, NIPSCO, IPL, and I&M have spent millions of dollars to enhance their interests and cripple small business competitors in the solar industry.

While this knowledge has made the news before, we’ve never seen such a hard-hitting one-two-punch from our newspapers about their influence over our statehouse. News which is now splashed on front pages across the state.
Of course, it should be noted that solar is not the only area Indiana utilities have flexed their muscles to protect their bottom line.
Remember Energizing Indiana? The program that brought 19,000 jobs to Indiana and the repeal of which gave us Trump’s deal with Carrier? The program that helped retirees and working families living paycheck to paycheck reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. The utilities saw energy efficiency as a threat to their business model, so they led the charge to have the successful program eliminated; in just a few days at the statehouse the program was canceled and hundreds of people lost their jobs.
The time is now to come together and demand an end to utilities undue influence over our state’s energy future.
We must act now to shine a spotlight in our communities on the injustices of our existing utility model and regulatory structure. It’s time to build something new. A just future which shifts the balance of power back into our hands as consumers.
We are calling on you to join in planning an event outside each big investor-owned utilities headquarters to unearth their role in eliminating our state’s solar and energy efficiency efforts – their attacks on the working class – and their undue influence on our state leaders.
